Campion Awarded ‘Unified Partner of the Special Olympics’ Status

On 21st November Campion School was officially recognised as a Unified Partner of the Special Olympics and became a member of the Global “Play Unified: Learn Unified” Special Olympics Network.

In a brief but meaningful ceremony, our school became accredited and recognised for its longstanding support of this organisation. The ceremony was attended by Campion’s Headmaster, Mr Michael Henderson, the President of the Special Olympics Hellas and Honorary Ambassador, Mr Dionysios Kodellas, representatives of the Special Olympics board and Special Olympic athletes as well as by Campion teachers and IB pupils.

Mr Henderson and Mr Kodellas addressed the Campion community expressing their appreciation for its contribution. Our IB pupils presented various events which our school has either organised or has actively participated in over the past decade. These have included the Lighting of the Flame at Zappeion and the Torch Relay before the Special Olympic Games (2019, 2023), the Special Route at the authentic Athens Marathon (2018, 2019, 2023), Basketball Games during the European Basketball Week (2018, 2019) and the Athens Flying Week show (2018, 2019). Everyone present expressed their will and determination to continue this long-standing collaboration.

On behalf of the Campion community, I would like to thank the Special Olympics Hellas for the recognition of our school’s efforts to date. We are honoured to have become a “Unified Partner of the Special Olympics” and we look forward to continuing our cooperation and organising further meaningful events.
