Taste of Athens 2019

For four days, from September 19th to 22nd, the Taste of Athens festival brought together in the Zappeion Megaro fourteen of the top Athenian restaurants, some of them being Michelin-starred establishments, which served a special menu at their pop up stalls. They presented their signature dishes at affordable prices (€3 to €12), so that everyone could “taste Athens”. The event included cooking lessons by internationally renowned Greeks and international chefs, interactive experiences, tastings, cocktail workshops and many other activities for young and old alike. The responsibilities of CAS volunteers was to scan tickets, hand out pamphlets to tourists and other citizens in the area and to guide people and vehicles into designated areas so they could enjoy the event.

Volunteering in such an event in the centre of the city allowed interaction with all kinds of people from all over the world. It may have been tedious work, standing in the smoldering sun for 4 and a half hours, but it had other added benefits; our volunteering blessed us with the ability to treat your family to a gourmet night out for (almost) free. The other volunteers were friendly, helpful and significantly improved our experience.

Overall, it was an interesting and “different” experience which left everyone involved with only good memories.
