On 8th October, all Year 9 pupils went on a fun and educational trip into the centre of Athens to visit the Acropolis Museum. We split into two groups and spent an hour in the museum with tour guides who explained everything.
During our visit, we saw different ancient sculptures and pottery, as well as learnt about the history of the Acropolis. We looked at many of the main artifacts, such as the Caryatides and the statue of Niki (the goddess of victory). Life in the different eras of Greek civilisation were compared. We also looked at how the ancient Greeks impacted the whole world by inspiring maths, medicine, democracy, etc.
Finally, after making our way out of the museum we were all excited and had many questions which the amazing tour guides were kind enough to answer. Overall, we believe that this trip and all educational trips organised by the Greek Department are very useful as they enrich our understanding of the Greek language and culture. We would like to thank the Greek Department for organising this trip and we are looking forward to the next one!
